Position Summary or Faculty Qualifications

Saint Joseph’s University’s Department of Biology has an ongoing need for highly qualified adjunct faculty to staff a variety of courses each semester. Professionals with experience and a passion for teaching at the undergraduate level will be given preference. Part-time adjunct faculty may instruct one or two courses each semester on an “as needed” basis. Courses available for adjunct staffing are offered during the day and also in the evening. Courses available for adjunct staffing may include:
Non-Major courses
1. Bio 160: Heredity and Evolution – an introductory course in genetics and evolutionary principles.

2. Bio 161: The Human Organism – a elementary course in anatomy and physiology.
3. Bio 260-261: Anatomy and Physiology for Nursing and Allied Health – a more advanced course for non-majors in anatomy and physiology, includes laboratory
Laboratory sections:
1. Freshman lab sections for introductory courses: Bio 101: Cells, and Bio 102: Genetics and Evolutionary Biology
2. Lab sections for a non-science major course, BIO 165: Exploring the Living World.
3. Lab sections for Anatomy and Physiology for Nursing and Allied Health.
4. Lab sections for the third biology majors course (sophomores): Bio 201 Organismic Biology. Includes a survey of the diversity of organisms and basic plant and animal physiology

Preparation of materials
Providing support and guidance to students
Report Grades

Secondary Responsibilities:
Minimum Requirements:

Master’s Degree in an area of Biology or closely related major.

Preferred Qualifications:

ABD or PhD in an area of Biology. Previous teaching experience. Willingness to be flexible in class scheduling.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

May require standing for long periods of time, talking for long periods of time and carrying course materials.
