Position Summary or Faculty Qualifications

Saint Joseph’s University’s Department of English has an ongoing need for highly qualified adjunct faculty to staff a variety of introductory courses in composition and literature each semester. Knowledge of writing pedagogy and British and American literature is essential. Part-time adjunct faculty may instruct one or two courses each semester on an as needed basis. Introductory courses available for adjunct staffing are offered during the day and also during the evening in the College of Professional and Liberal Studies. Online and hybrid teaching formats may be available.

Courses available for adjunct staffing may include:
ENG 101: The Craft of Language
ENG 102: Texts and Contexts
ENG 206: Public Speaking and Presentation
ENG 263: Writing for Organizations

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching of a specified course according to English Department guidelines
Preparation of materials
Providing support and guidance to students
Holding weekly office hours

Secondary Responsibilities:

Occasional meetings with Department Chair and other faculty-members to discuss pedagogical issues.

Minimum Requirements:

Required qualifications include a Master’s Degree in English or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

ABD or PhD in Literature, Rhetoric & Composition, or Creative Writing. Previous teaching experience. Willingness to be flexible in class scheduling.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

May require standing for long periods of time, talking for long periods of time and carrying course materials.
