Position Summary or Faculty Qualifications

The Assistant Director, College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Admissions is responsible for providing prospects and applicants for the graduate programs in the College of Arts and Sciences with a high contact, personalized admissions experience. The GAC advises prospective students on academic programs as well as admission procedures as appropriate. The GAC actively guides students through each phase of the admissions process. The GAC works collaboratively with graduate program directors and other campus constituencies in support of the CAS admission and retention enrollment objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Cultivate relationships with graduate program candidates by maintaining communication via telephone, correspondence, and email through all stages of the recruitment, admissions and enrollment process on a timely basis.
• Monitor application pipeline numbers, including application status, deposits and new student enrollment numbers.
• Develop relationships with all graduate program directors through regular communication.
• Actively work with graduate program directors and academic advisors to secure student enrollment.
• Provide complete and accurate information about graduate degree admission procedures and academic requirements for specific programs.
• Direct incoming students to university student support systems and general advisement.
• Organize and execute various recruitment events where necessary including but not limited to open houses, graduate fairs, online webinars and chats. Represent SJU external recruiting events.
• Assist in the implementation of strategic retention efforts for graduate students in collaboration with Adult Student Life
• Serve as a liaison between students, faculty and staff to overcome enrollment/registration challenges for students.
• Work with Assistant Director of Operations and Communications to ensure recruitment materials/program publications are updated and in stock.
• Work with the Executive Director and the Marketing Research Analyst in Graduate CAS to develop and update recruitment communication plans.
• Serve as a liaison with other departments including Adult Student Life, International Students and Scholars, Registrar’s Office and Office of Enrollment Management for all graduate admissions concerns.

Secondary Responsibilities:

• Provide assistance to other office personnel as needed.
• Participate as an active member on committees as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

Some evenings and weekends may be required for special events.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of three years of experience in higher education admissions
• Ability to exercise interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with prospective students, faculty, staff and external contacts
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including strong public speaking skills
• Ability to exercise time management and problem solving skills and to strong detail
• Ability to work independently and accomplish tasks under deadline stresses.
• Ability to gather data, compile and analyze information and draw conclusions
• Ability to maintain confidential information with tact and discretion
• Mastery of basic skill level in Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree
• Experience with Ellucian’s (Formally Sungard’s) Banner system
