Position Summary or Faculty Qualifications

Saint Joseph’s University’s Department of English has an ongoing need for highly qualified adjunct faculty to staff a variety of courses in journalism. Part-time adjunct faculty may instruct one or two courses each semester on an as needed basis. Adjunct faculty may be assigned to teach introductory courses in news reporting and writing, multimedia journalism, editing, and special topics in journalism in our full-time day program, our evening Professional and Liberal Studies program, and/or our graduate program in Writing Studies. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching at the college-level as well as possess professional journalism experience. Experience in using social media and/or digital technology is essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching of a specified course according to English Department guidelines
Preparation of materials
Providing support and guidance to students
Holding regular office hours

Secondary Responsibilities:

Occasional meetings with Department Chair, Department Coordinator, and other faculty-members to discuss pedagogical issues.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in Journalism or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

College-level teaching experience as well as professional journalism experience.
Willingness to be flexible in class scheduling. Significant work experience or publication in the field is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

May require standing for long periods of time, talking for long periods of time and carrying course materials.
