Position Title: Head Coach/Instructor - Softball

Position Summary or Faculty Qualifications

Coach, direct and oversee all aspects of an NCAA Division I Softball program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Recruit and attract qualified student athletes.
•Teach, coach, mentor and inspire student-athletes up through graduation.
•Administer all aspects of the programs including scheduling, facilities, travel, scholarships, equipment and supplies, marketing, fund raising and alumni relations.
•Evaluate and select Assistant Coaches.
•Responsibility for staying within fiscal and budgetary guidelines.
•Determine individual and team strengths and develop strategies to maximize performance.
•Ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken in practice, games and during team travel.

Secondary Responsibilities:

•Identify and recruit student athletes who are capable of competing successfully on the NCAA Division I level and who are capable of succeeding academically and graduating.
•Develop and oversee off-season conditioning programs for the team. Determine individual and team strengths and develop strategies to maximize performance.
•Scout opponents and develop scouting reports.
•Discipline student-athletes and staff for infractions of rules, regulations and policies.
•Attend coaches’ meetings and other department and University meetings as required
•Assist in the promotion of the program whenever and wherever possible. Interact with alumni and promoting healthy participation on their part in the program.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

•Must have flexibility and be able to sustain long work hours including evenings, early mornings and weekends.
•Position requires frequent travel.

Minimum Requirements:

•Bachelor’s degree.
•Minimum of five years coaching experience.
•Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to NCAA and member conference rules and regulations.
•Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification must be maintained.
•Valid driver’s license and successful clearance of motor vehicle record check.
•Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Saint Joseph’s University.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Master’s degree.
•Coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level.
