Position Summary or Faculty Qualifications

The Assistant Director (11-month position) will work with the current programming board to develop and support an innovative programming model that meets students’ needs and aligns with current trends in the field. Reporting to the Director, this position will coordinate annual Senior Class programs including Senior Week. The Assistant Director will also process contracts for student events and supervise The Perch student worker staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop, plan and facilitate transition to an innovative programming model with the programming board that meets the social and cultural needs of our student population.
• Plan and implement annual Senior Class events and Senior Week; work with Commencement Committee to ensure timely communication to students and families for Senior Week events.
• Supervise student worker staff and assist with facilities management in The Perch, on-campus student lounge and performance space.
• Oversee and manage related programming budgets and process all related financial transactions.
• Review and negotiate student-generated contracts with internal and external agencies.
• Coordinate fall and spring semester study breaks with student organizations and various university offices.
• Serve on the Student Life First Year Experience (FYE) planning committee.
• Develop comprehensive assessment plan in order to evaluate effectiveness of programs and needs of student community.
• Support programming for Student Leadership & Activities events and programs, including HawkFest and Orientation.
• Develop constructive and collaborative working relationships and programming partnerships with other departments including, Residence Life, Center for Inclusion & Diversity, Wellness, Alcohol and Drug Education (WADE), and the Department of Recreation.
• Develop and facilitate leadership development workshops and programs.
• Support and actively engage in the creation of programs and services centered in the Transformative Learning Goals.

Secondary Responsibilities:

• Meet regularly with the Assistant Director for Residential Education to develop and support a collaborative Campus Life programming model.
• Support the Ignatian mission of Saint Joseph’s University.
• Serve on University and division-wide committees as appointed and prepare reports necessary to accomplish the goals of Student Leadership & Activities and the Division of Student Life.
• Serve as a resource for students, student organizations and advisors.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

• Evening and weekend hours are required.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master’s degree.
• Two years of experience in campus program planning and/or event management.
• Successful background check clearance under Saint Joseph’s University’s “Minors on Campus Policy” (PA Criminal Records Check, FBI Fingerprinting Check and PA Child Abuse Clearance Check).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with a student programming board and large-scale events.
• A successful candidate will have a demonstrated enthusiasm for working with college students and an understanding of student culture as well as strong organizational and communication skills.
